Benefits of Membership with the SJVPA
SJVPA strives to contribute to the professional development of local psychologists in many ways.
SJVPA is an official chapter of the California Psychological Association (CPA) – providing psychologists in the Valley with representation at the state’s professional organization. SJVPA works closely with the CPA to network with our area legislators and other policymakers in order to influence legislation at the State level.
SJVPA provides a vehicle for psychologists to take a stance with local and state legislatures on issues important to psychology, including licensing issues, scope of practice, hospital privileges, insurance reimbursement issues, and many others.
SJVPA provides a venue for professional education and scholarly dialogue among mental health providers in the Central Valley through local continuing education opportunities.
SJVPA provides a professional model for graduate students, interns and postdoctoral level students, helping them understand the professional aspects of their careers, and providing them with role models and the opportunity to work side by side with seasoned psychologists.
SJVPA presents yearly awards honoring worthy individuals and organizations who contribute to community welfare with their personal and professional efforts.
SJVPA provides a place for local professional camaraderie, professional social connection, and friendship through bi-monthly general meetings, its network of professional contacts, and the searchable SJVPA membership directory.
SJVPA acts as a venue for the public to be educated about finding a mental health provider, and allows members to be searched by the public based on a number of professional criteria set by the individual member.
SJVPA's new website allows member-only access to classified advertisements, job postings, and continuing Education workshops or courses.
