About the Event: The presentation will focus on cultural competency in the transgender community. The role of the mental health professional in transgender health care, basic medical care of transgender patients, and a review of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health standards of care will be discussed. 

Educational Objectives:   By the completion of this course, participants will be able to

1-Demonstrate cultural competency in working with the transgender community

2-Decscribe the role of the mental health professional in transgender health care

3-List common medical practices for transgender medical patients

 

About the Presenter:  Dr. Sue Stone has been a practicing physician since 1985. She graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School and then completed a three-year residency in Family Practice.  After 4 years in practices focused on obstetrics, she became an emergency physician, the last 6 of those years at St. Agnes Medical Center.  After a bit of a spiritual nudge, Dr. Stone opened her practice in Holistic Medicine in 2001. She is now board-certified in Holistic Medicine. In the past. Dr. Stone serviced at Assistant Clinical Professor at Fresno Medical Education Program at School of Medicine, and College of Human Medicine at Michigan State. She also served as Adjunct Clinical Instructor at National College of Naturopathic Medicine and is currently an Expert Reviewer for alternative medicine with the Medical Board of California. Dr. Stone continues to educate herself on all the new developments in Holistic Medicine and is constantly adding new tools to her armory.  Her interests include travel, backpacking, cycling, scuba diving, botany, birding, cooking, and GLBT issues.

 

The Sullivan Center for Children is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists.  The Sullivan Center for Children maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
