Jason Christopherson, PsyD, ABPP is a clinical psychologist licensed to practice in the States of California, Utah, and Nevada, and board certified through the American Board of Professional Psychology as a Child/Adolescent clinical psychologist.  He has been a  practicing psychologist for nearly a decade and now works as the clinical director for  Ascend Behavioral Health which operates child and adolescent Intensive Outpatient programs.  He has been providing educational presentations to psychologists for many years in areas related to clinical practice, psychopharmacology, ethics and mental health law, pediatric clinical psychology, psychological testing, and developmental neuropsychology.  He is a long-time member of SJVPA and the current acting President.  He is also passionate about professional advocacy and has served as the Legislative Advocacy Network chair for SJVPA for 10 years.

This continuing education course is designed for post-graduate, post-licensure, level training in the area of suicide risk assessment and the treatment of patients with suicidality and self-harm symptom presentations.  It is targeted toward psychologists and mental health professionals who are actively licensed practitioners.  This event is additionally open to those seeking licensure who are looking to satisfy California state Board of Psychology and Board of Behavioral Sciences requirements for CE's in this area.

Program Objectives

At the conclusion of this program, attendees will:

1. Describe demographic risk factors for suicide attempts and completions.

2. Compare and Contrast the traditional method of risk assessment with the proposed clinical risk assessment model and process.

3. Identify and differentiate various symptoms of elevated risk of suicidality.

4. Demonstrate treatment planning for varying levels of suicide risk.

5. Describe multiple interventions to implement with a patient at varying levels of suicide risk.
